Drawing is a technique that Yolanda del Riego has used throughout her career. Her early drawings include pen and ink and drawings on her own handmade paper, one for which in 1978 she won the 13th All-Alaska Juried Art Exhibition Drawing Award and the Anchorage Historical and Fine Arts Museum Purchase Award (Juror: Roy Slade, President Cranbrook Academy of Art).

YR frequently uses drawing in combination with other techniques, such as painting, collage, printmaking (monoprints) and it is an integral part of her mixed media works. More recently, Yolanda del Riego has returned to drawing as a primary technique.
